I’ve got a question for you, my fellow green beauty junkies – how many tubes of foundation do you own?
At one stage, I had 6 tubes of pretty foundations all sitting in my beauty cabinet (told you I’m a beauty junkie), which means I could wear a different brand every day of the week (I usually take a day off from wearing makeup every week). I’m on a never-ending quest for the best-suited foundation as it just feels like another layer of my skin. You know that feeling of wearing a pure silk chemise for bed that makes your sweet night’s dream even sweeter? That’s exactly what I’m talking about. I’ve been a raving fan of INIKA organic makeup products for a while (if you’ve missed my review of their mineral blush, eye shadow and makeup remover you can read it over here). I thought I’d also road test their INIKA Truly Organic Liquid Foundation to see if it lives up to its glorious reputation – I’m glad to say that I wasn’t disappointed at all. 🙂 Here’s my review and be sure to read all the way till the end of the page to enter our GIVEAWAY!

This liquid foundation comes with a creamy consistency. It goes on satiny smooth and not chalky at all unlike many other mineral-based foundations. One pump dispenses just the perfect amount for my entire face and décolletage. I apply using my fingertips as I love to give it a bit of my body heat to make it sit smoother on my face especially during cooler months. The product blends really well and glides on to my skin effortlessly. And here comes the most impressing win – it dries down quickly to look and feel I’m wearing nothing! Yes, I’m talking about that natural ‘no makeup’ makeup look which is like the holy grail for anyone trying to master their makeup skills.
Although it feels really lightweight on my skin, it still gives a flawless and radiant finish with a hint of healthy, fresh glow. It visibly minimises my open pores which is beyond magical. The look is nothing too shiny and I’d be confident enough to wear it for photoshoot (some mineral makeups aren’t the best for photos as they give you that weird type of shine). In terms of coverage, I’d rate it 4.5 out of 5. I don’t have much issues with pigmentation, but I have a couple of slight scars from acne around my jawline. It covers those pretty well while I still use a concealer to give a completely flawless finish.
There’re lots of essential oils in the formula yet it doesn’t feel greasy at all. I totally adore the feeling of leaving my skin the room to breathe without any oily residue.
I wear the beige colour which I was told that it’d suit most medium-toned skin. I have slightly yellowish skin tone and it’s not the easiest to find the perfect shade to neutralise my yellow tone. This shade works wonderfully for me – not too pale nor too dark with a hint of luminous glow – LOVE! You can also get them in cream, honey or tan.
This INIKA foundation carries a subtle scent of essential oil blend but it doesn’t give any noticeable scent after applying on my skin.
Another thing that amazes me is its long staying power. I went on a 4-hour flight to Hobart without taking off my makup and foundation (one of those hectic days but I try not to do this often!). Thanks god my skin didn’t look flakey after the flight and it didn’t show dry patches either. I did wear a layer of rosehip oil underneath which should have helped to lock in the moisture. I’d say this foundation did a fairly great job as well. The coverage was still pretty impressive after the flight and all I had to do was a spritz of rosewater spray (I love the La Mav one) and touched up with a layer of loose mineral powder (I use Antipodes). Another plus is that this tube is lightweight so it fits in my travel beauty pouch perfectly.
In terms of packaging, the pump bottle dispenses just the right amount of product I need with no mess and no leak. The only thing I’m mindful about is the plastic bottle. It could be more eco-friendly with glass bottles instead to minimise the use of plastic as even biodegradable plastic can lead to a long list of environmental hazards (sourced here).
At $65 for 30ml, sadly it is slightly pricier than other organic brands. To be fair though, with all the certifications they got from being truly organic and vegan, those all come with a cost to maintain the standard of production. It’s such a brilliant idea that they actually let you purchase 6ml samples for only $1 on INIKA’s website to make sure you beauty dollars are well spent.
Well, it’s your lucky day! Thanks to the team over at Beautiful Because, we’re giving you the chance to WIN a fabulous prize pack that includes, not one, but TWO gorgeously green products:
