So I just made a friend throw out her recently purchased hand cream. Oh, and I’m so proud of us both! Here’s the story, while she was rubbing on his fluoro pink coloured hand cream from an unknown brand while we were at lunch, I was quite irritated by the artificial fragrant smell. With the fluoro colour and the off-puting scent, it’s set off my ‘skin toxins’ alert right there. So I grabbed the tube and checked the labels – methylyparabens, mineral oils, PEG and fragrance – YIKES (check out the ‘toxic eight’ substances commonly found in personal care items in our guide here). I explained to my friend why these ingredients are big No-Nos. You know, things like causing cancer, reproductive toxicity, hormonal disruption and other bits that don’t sound slightly appealing. ‘Oh crap! I couldn’t believe they’re allowed to sell these toxin-laden products at the shops!’ she exclaimed while walking straight to the bin. So that was the first time ever that my ‘preach’ about the switch to natural skincare products has seen an influence on someone I know in real life face-to-face. Time that I spent on the quest for natural alternatives for skincare and preach about it here have brought some worthwhile reward! And it actually feels amazing to see that you are the change that you want to see. So this month I’ve again rummaged through the internet and chemists to bring you another round of best natural skincare product reviews, trialed and loved by myself and the review team – enjoy!
♥ Premium Spa
Product tested: 1. Wattle Seed, Walnut & Rice Bran SOS Wonder Scrub 2. White Clay, Rosehip & Chamomile Face & Body Mask 3. Shea Butter, Jojoba & Goji Ultra Firming Body Balm 4. Ginger & Orange SOS Hand Cream 5. Lavender, Pumice & Peppermint SOS Foot Scrub 6. Frangipani & Coconut Body Wash
Why are they green? Products are made with certified organic rosehip, tea tree, eucalyptus, jojoba oil and aloe vera. All products contain no mineral Oils, parabens, detergents, artificial colours, synthetic fillers or polybeads. No animal testing. Recyclable PET packaging.
Verdict: After spending some time in the sun and salt water at the beach last weekend, I was super excited to get my hands on this Premium Spa body pampering pack for some skin SOS! First of all, all of their products have got ‘certified organic’ labels on their packaging and full ingredient lists, which I checked that they indeed do not contain any nasties as they claimed on their website – TICK. I decided to create a little at-home spa body care routine with these products. Candles lit and warm bath ready – I jumped straight into some scrubbing action with their Wonder Scrub and SOS Foot Scrub. I applied a generous amount of Wonder Scrub all over my body starting with body parts that are generally rough – elbows, shoulders and knees. The scrubby particles are relatively big which is the right size for me. It exfoliates fairly well to remove my stubborn dead skins while still feels gentle enough overall. My skin was left softened, smooth and tender without feeling dry! The smell is as blissful as walking through a summer garden – very refreshing with a hint of nutty scent that lingers on after wash. I then tackled my feet with the SOS Foot Scrub. The beads are a bit bigger than the other one with some substantial scrubbing power – say bye to rhino like rough ankles woot! It gave my feet a rejuvenating peppermint sensation with a pleasant lavender scent. This has become my go to product after travelling for those worn out travel feet. Also worth mentioning is their thoughtful packaging in tubes rather than bottles, making applying while in shower with wet hands such a breeze without any mess!
Next up was their frangipani & coconut body wash – I’m a self confessed ‘coco-nut’ lady and I felt this one would become yet another of my fav coconut body pampering collections. It didn’t disappoint at all. Oh, where should I even start – perhaps with their heavenly scent? I simply LOVE this combination of frangipani and coconut. It’s exotic, it’s light and enchanting. The only down side is that it does have fragrance on its ingredient list. It has a clear and light consistency making it perfect for summer days or after excercising and a day on the beach. A tiny bit of wash and it foams fairly well and evenly. It leaves my skin cleansed, toned with a soft and supple feel to it and not dry at all. This is a wonderful wash for those with dry skin and do not want a heavy cream wash in summer months. Again the soft plastic bottle makes it easy to use in shower.
The White Clay, Rosehip & Chamomile Body Mask was utterly indulging! I had so much fun in the shower slapping this greyish coloured clay all over my face & body (I did make a bit of mess just because I was a bit overtly excited like a baby in warm bath!). LOVE LOVE LOVE as this formula feels very gentle on both my face and body. Multi-use products are great for making the earth greener as you reduce the amount of bottles and packaging that end up in your bins with less products purchase, not to mention the amount of green house gases emitted from the manufacturing and distribution process of each product. This clay mask promised to purify, deep cleanse and sooth and it did just that very well. My skin felt velvety smooth and conditioned. It leaves no scent at all on your skin for those who prefer fragrance-free products.
For the last step of my at-home day spa routine I had my SOS Hand Cream and Ultra Firming Body Balm. The hand cream is packed with licorice extracts, natural Australian honey and cacao butter for its super moisturizing power. I have very dry cuticles so if a hand cream doesn’t soothe them it’s a no go. This one has my tick of approval with its nourishing formula. It has a medium body, fast-absorbing texture and feels non-greasy. The light ginger & orange scent stays on and smells uber delicious! Their shea butter and organic jojoba oil enriched Body Balm did a fine job in locking in moisture after all my hard work on scrubbing. Its effect to improve firmness and elasticity on my skin was quite significant after continuous use for a week, particularly on my arms and legs. I’m getting a healthy glow on my skin that smells berry-licious – added straight to my everyday beauty staples!
Psst… I also had a Lemon Butter Salt Body Scrub from Premium Spa to giveaway so stay tuned in and keep reading toward the end of post!
♥ Eco Tools
Product tested: Eco Tools Large Powder Brush
Why is it Green: Bamboo handles cosmetic brush that are 100% cruelty free.
Verdict: Where have you been all my life, seriously? This Eco Tools large powder brush ticks all the boxes with it being eco-conscious made with bamboo, cruelty free and luxuriously fluffy! So who else would agree, my fellow beauty junkies – nothing is more satisfying than having new sets of soft makeup brushes! However, some of the brushes I used previously had its softness and silkiness lost after a couple of washes (I’ve vowed to wash all my brushes weekly as part of my new year beauty resolution blogged here). With this Eco Tools brush, I’ve had a few wash on them and it doesn’t lose its bristles while also holding its shape nicely. It also comes with a small eco pouch to keep your brush away from dust which I love. I use it with my loose mineral powder. The large and silky soft head delivers an even all-over dusting without much effort. I get impeccable application every time without caking up the loose mineral powder thanks to this dense brush. No doubt I’ll be sticking with it for a while! And I’m so tempted to add the rest of their makeup brushes to my shopping basket.

Product tested: 1. Prime Time Foundation Primer – Neutralizing 2. Mineral Veil
Why is it Green: No mineral oils, parabens and fragrance. Mineral veil has a natural corn starch base. Primer contains aloe vera extracts and chamomila recutita flower extracts.
Verdict: It wasn’t love at first sight with the primer but we’re now living happily ever after! When I first squeezed it out, the primer came with a colour that resembled gel bronzer with a yellowish shade. I was a little bit in doubt when I saw it. However, once I applied a thin layer over my face, it lightens up very quickly. It has a fairly thin body making applying an even layer easy as peas! Having slightly uneven and dull skin tone has always been my concerns so the promise that it can battle rough patches and uneven complexion has got me totally sold before I even trialed this primer. And it turns out that it works its beautiful wonder as promised. What a remarkable difference it makes to my complexion! My skin looks visibly brighter and dewy with my pores look minimised. I have combination to oily skin and this primer actually helps to combat shine on my skin after a long day. I let it dry on my skin in 10 seconds or so before applying my mineral veil, and my skin didn’t feel the burden of an extra layer of products nor it feels sticky – what a sweetheart! I’m so addicted to this primer that it’s hard to apply foundation again without it , yet I’m leaving it for the special occasion while trying to minimise the number of different skin products I use on a daily basis. It was hard to not wear it on some days I tell you as it does some incredible magic!
Another product from bareMinerals to adore is their mineral veil. It glides on my skin without caking up, with it feeling super satin-like on my face for a flawless finish. My pore looks visibly smaller and the staying power is superb – it got my ticked my approval after a 2-hour hiking trip with minimal shine afterwards – TICK TICK TICK! I use it as a light foundation powder on days when I want to achieve a more nude/ natural makeup look, and use it over my cream foundation as a finishing powder for those night out in town. It has a slight illuminating effect adding just a stroke of light without being shimmery.
I’m not quite sure if they’re cruelty free and vegan friendly. I went on the bareMinerals site to research but failed to find any information on this. I think they could definitely do better and be more transparent about their ingredients and production methods on their sites. Overall these are products that I will definitely re-purchase and recommend to my fellow beauty junkies.
