Now let’s get straight into it to check out these fab natural beauty find of the month, shall we?
♥ The Jojoba Company
Product tested: 100% Natural Makeup Remover
Why is it Green: 100% natural jojoba based makeup remover enriched with a blend of natural fruit oils, kiwi, passionfruit, blood orange, musk melon, cranberry and pink grapefruit. No harmful detergents, chemicals or parabens. No artificial fragrances or colours. No PEGs, mineral oil or sodium lauryl sulphate. Not animal products. Alcohol free.
Verdict: I’ve used their Jojoba oil to mositurise my cuticles and revitalise dull hair so I’m pretty familiar and confident about their ingredients. This is my first time using their Jojoba oil blend as makeup remover and the result didn’t disappoint. For everyday light makeup (mineral eye shadows, eye liner and mineral powder), I pump around 2 drops of 100% Natural Makeup Remover on a damp cotton pad and wipe it all over my face starting from under eyes area and work my way downwards. It takes everything off effortlessly and doesn’t irritate my eyes – I’m a contact lens wearer with sensitive eyes so using a gentle makeup remover is a must. A huge tick on doing a neat job for no teary moments! I do however feel some residue oil around the eyes so I always finish off my cleansing routine with a normal cleanser (which is recommended by my beautician with most make up remover brands). I also trialed this on days when I wore heavier makeup with two layers of waterproof mascara. Regretfully this product seemed to struggle a little bit giving me slight ‘panda eyes’. I gave it another try, this time using three drops of oil on a cotton pad for each eye, while covering my eyelids with the cotton pads for around 5 seconds before wiping off. My mascara did come off a lot more easier. However it did leave a greasy feeling on the skin around my eyes. Overall, I’d recommend this natural oil makeup remover for those who usually wear light non waterproof makeup – it feels gentle and does a neat job.
Product tested: 5 Free Nail Lacquer (Dancing With Myself & November Rain), Mineral Eye Shadow (Boogie Nights & Rapture)
Why is it Green: Nail lacquer range is 5-free and not tested on animals. Certified vegan. All mineral makeup products are free of parabens, synthetic FD & C classified dyes, clays, mineral oil or petroleum derived ingredients. Free of lanolin, beeswax or any other generic fillers.
Verdict: The quality of these 5-free nail polish is superb and glides on smoothly like butter! One coat and the colours have gone opaque and shiny right away. I’m simply in LOVE with their metallic silver shade (November Rain) – ultra shimmery and it feels luxuriously smooth! This has become my go to nail polish if I want to feel instantly glam. As for its chip resisting power I’d rate it 4 over 5 – first sign of chipping only appears after four days with top coat applied – not bad at all.
The mineral eye shadows feel velvety and are very easy to apply evenly with either an eye shadow brush or with my fingertips. Both colours are from their Shimmery range – Boogie Nights is a deep purple shade while Rapture gives a grayish blue hue. They’re perfect for a glam night out in town and to pair with dark plum lips for that dramatic look. The shimmery particles are quite big and dramatically light-reflecting even in low light environment. I wore the Rapture shade for a late night Jazz club date with my Mr and he commented that he simply couldn’t stop staring into my eyes with the twinkling shine and the mysterious blueish grey shade (okay I promise he doesn’t usually give flattering compliments!). So it’s a winner I guess. 🙂 Also have to praise its staying power – I applied without primer and it did an impressive job holding up all night. I’d highly recommend investing in a few shades from their Shimmery range for those special occasions when you want to turn heads!
Product tested: Rosewater Mist, Sea Buckthorn & Pomegranate Revitalize Serum, Lemon Myrtle and Mandarin hand Wash, Lipstick (Alexandrite)
Why is it Green: No petrochemicals, nanoparticles, parabens, talc, fillers, carmine and bismuth oxychloride. All products are vegan, PETA & Choose Cruelty Free accredited. Lipsticks are free from carmine and lead.
Verdict: First impression – their minimalist ‘sports luxe’ type of monochromatic packaging has totally caught my eyes. The first product I trialed from their pack was the Rosewater Mist . I’ve always been a big fan of any toners with rosewater as it seems to click well with my skin so I couldn’t wait to try on this one by Musq. First of all, it’s label check time – there’re only 5 ingredients that make this toner (rose flower distillate, glycerine, vitamin e oil, grapefruit seed extract and rose flower oil), all of them are natural while 3 of them are certified organic – that’s a tick! One spritz on my face and I was instantly hit by an incredibly ‘rose-mantic’ scent that was subtly sweet yet not too overpowering. The mist was very fine and it felt luxurious on my skin spreading evenly all over with a calming and soothing sensation. This went straight into my post-workout beauty pouch as I found it very effective to combat post sweating redness. Non-sticky formula also means it’s great for use throughout the day over makeup – I’d give it a 10 out of 10!
Next up was the Revitalize Serum. Olive oil and sea buckthorn kernel extract are the 2 main ingredients which are both certified organic. I started with one drop and massaged it onto my face – with its thin and clear consistency, one drop goes a LOOONG way! It does give an initial oily feel to my skin, but then it just sinks in after massaging gently for around 30 seconds. After using the serum nightly for 2 weeks, my skin felt smoother and plumped up. I had some slight pigments from breakouts recently and I was so impressed with its healing power that gave me clearer looking skin – this one is a keeper!
Musq also makes natural lipstick with a jojoba and vitamin E oil enriched formula. The Alexandrite shade I trialed is a gorgeous lollipop pink hue that is shimmery with a hint of golden glow. As for the formula, I’m so glad it doesn’t dry out my lips. It has a ‘satin’ kind of feel and is fairly light. Sadly, it doesn’t have strong staying power and the shimmery starts to come off with a few sips of drinks. Overall, it’s perfect for wearing during the day pairing with nude eyes, shimmery silver eyeliners and a couple of layers of mascara for a doll-like look.
My favourite products from the pack is their lemon myrtle and mandarin hand wash – the heavenly scent has completely won me over! The citrus fragrance is revitalising and brings me straight to a luxury eco lodge. It gives rich lather with clear consistency that feels nourishing and clean on my skin. If you love to create a spa ambiance at home I promise this product won’t disappoint.
♥ Burt’s Bees
Product tested: 100% Natural Lip Shine (top left), 100% Natural Lip Balm with Pink Grapefruit (top right), 100% Natural Rose Tinted Lip Balm (bottom left), 100% Natural Lip Crayon (bottom right).
Why is it Green: All lip products are made from 100% naturally derived ingredients (beeswax and essential oils) with sustainable packaging.
Verdict: Their lip crayon and I were just meant to be for each other! With its creamy and deeply moisturising consistency, I used the crayon pen to line my lips and then filled in the colours – so impressed with how easy it was to create the perfect port with no lip liners needed at all. Personally, I love the matte finishing which is perfect for achieving a vintage glam look. This one is hands down a travel beauty must-have item with no-fuss application and nourishing formula making it perfect for use after flying – definitely a breeze when you’re on the go!
My second favourite among them all would be their rose tinted lip balm for everyday use – one gentle swipe and it glides on my lips leaving them soft with a hint of healthy glow – winning.
As for the lip shine, it’s extra glossy with just a thin layer applied. The texture was pretty smooth so it was fairly easy to apply an even layer. However, it simply isn’t my thing as lip gloss tends to feel too sticky on my lips and the gloss doesn’t have enough long-staying power.
Their natural lip balm with pink grapefruit is fantastic for hydrating lips that need some serious attention – I keep drinking warm herbal tea throughout the day and tend to have very dry lips. Their lip balm did a very neat job to lock in moisture that lasted for a few good hours. Not to mention it’s also refreshingly delicious with a zesty grapefruit scent!
Regret to say though non of these lip colours are vegan-friendly as they contain beeswax, lanolin and carmine (red pigments derived from insects). Overall, their formula is non-toxic and was rated fairly well overall on EWG database which gives me the peace of mind.
