Let’s face it, Taylor Swift doesn’t have any form of alien superpower to be able to look utterly graceful and flawless post workout. I repeat, people, Taylor Swift is as human as we are! You know, she sweats at gym (I’m fairly sure), she got dumped by her ex over a 27-second phone call, and she has a pretty long list of dramatic ex-boyfriends. Sound like some girls we used to know from high school, right? Next time when you marvel at her immaculate style exiting the gym, stop giving yourself any excuses that she achieves the look just because she’s T-Swift. Okay, I admit she might have a few personal assistants helping her carry water bottles and sweaty clothes which makes things a tad bit easier. Despite that, here at Lace n Ruffles HQ, I believe in impossible is nothing and a girl deserves to look classy in any occasion. All you need are the right tools and the savvy tips, right? Rejoice, my fellow gorgeous! I’ve personally trialled these 7 tricks attempting to get that glam post workout look, T-Swift style. I go by these two golden rules: the routine will need to be done in 10 minutes (seriously, who has an extra hour to spend post gym?) and I emphasize on beauty that shines from within through nourishing your body which doesn’t come overnight. Just thank me later, my lovelies. 🙂
NOTE: Read on till the very end as I’m giving away one beautiful Hedgren KACI tote to fit in all your workout goodies!
♥ Wing It!
Time taken: 1 minute
I put it as the number one post workout beauty tip – don’t you think those perfectly winged eyeliners simply give you a pair of angel’s wings? All it takes is about a minute and this dramatic facial feature will immediately define your look with a splash of glamour, making you feel like a Victoria Secret model ready for catwalks! I wipe away any smudge from pre-workout makeup with cotton buds before drawing my wings with a waterproof liner. Best tip to achieve the perfect wings? Always draw wings first by making a line from the end of lash line out and slightly up a couple of cm toward end of brow. Then, draw back toward lash line from above this line to make a small triangle. Viola! And remember, practise it daily till you wing it.
♥ Just Beet It!
Time taken: 30 seconds
Beauty shines from within and nothing else makes me happier than using non-toxic products that beautify my inner body as much as it graces my skin! I’m in love with organic delicious beetroot stain for my post workout beauty routine. The magic of beetroot stain is that it takes on a life on its own once applied, depending on your natural lip colour. A thin layer gives me an adorable rose bud hue, while I was trying to go for a dramatic glam look of seductive ‘classic red’ in the photo by mixing my beet stain with some organic beet powder in deep red. These are all handmade and 100% natural, purchased via Etsy stores. Making your own seems to be ridiculously easy too so stay tuned as I’ll be shooting some DIY tutorials soon! Beet stain is just as adorable for the cheek as for your lips, but you might already have the loveliest apple coloured flushed cheeks right after workout so save yourself 30 seconds if you don’t feel the need for blush.
♥ Braid It
Time taken: 3 minutes
Post workout hair is the biggest problem for me as I have really fine hair that tends to go all frizzy after sweating like a toy poodle. This is when braids come to save my life! If I only have a minute I’d go for a loose fishtail braid that hides frizzes ridiculously well and will actually give your look a hint of boho vibe. Got a spare minute or two? This braided half up hairdo is my most recent obsession for glam post workout style:
1. Start by creating two classic 3 strand braids on both sides, grabbing hair from above the ears.
2. Hold the end of the braids and loosely tie them together like a knot.
3. Tuck and pin! Tuck the tail of your braids underneath where you start braiding and secure with bobby pins.
4. Slightly loosen the braids with your fingers – and here you go, effortless messy glam hairstyle in less than 3 minutes! You’re ready to rock the red carpet right after workout.
♥ Hat Tricks
Time taken: 1 minute
Haven’t mastered the basic braid techniques? Brush, put on a hat and go! Seriously, it’s that simple that you won’t find any other excuses to not have perfectly coiffed hair post workout ever again. The best kept secret about hats? A wide brimmed floppy hat never fails to add a splash of classy Hollywood glamour to your look. Me and post yoga frizzy hair? We’re never, ever, ever meant to be together. 🙂
♥ Bag Them All
Time taken: 2 minutes
This is yet another magical trick that differentiate between everyday girls and Taylor Swift – we walk out of gym carrying water bottles, piles of sweaty towel, headphones and gym shoes, trying to juggle them all with both hands and gym bags that hardly zip up because you stuff them till they explode. This is when a pretty yet practical tote like this Hedgren KACI comes to rescue. It’s more just a pretty face in its eye-catching Storm colour and leather trimmed handles. It contains multiple compartments to fit in all your tiny gym bits and pieces like headphones and iPod, and is made with nylon which makes it durable and tough. Who needs a personal assistant when you can bag them all and carry it gracefully as you exit the gym?
♥ Freshen Up
Time taken: 2 minutes
I usually go for a quick shower post workout but what if you’re too time poor for that? Freshen up with body wipes and change into fresh clothes to ensure there’s no embarrassing sweat patch. My go-to post workout style is usually a dress and a scarf which is super quick to change into, gives you a feminine flair, and doesn’t take much time at all to mix and match on those busy mornings.
♥ Nourish
Time taken: 3 minutes of preparation pre-workout and enjoy as you go!
Looking after your body and inner beauty doesn’t stop as you finish exercising. Too many of us seem to forget about how vital it is to nourish your body post workout to get into a healthy routine in between gym or yoga sessions. I prepare my homemade acia berry smoothies for a nourishing feed post workout by blending 4 ripe bananas, a tablespoon of acai berry powder, organic honey, coconut yogurt and acai berry juice. Deliciousness on the go, anyone?

Great post Juliet, you’ve done it again!! only wish my girl friend Josi’ah wears make up like you do, she never wear it and she needs to…
Wow Ricky! Thanks for being my most loyal reader! Well, if your girlfriend Josi wants a makeup tutorial drop by my way 😉
By the way she’s really HAWTT and has such an attractive tiny waist!!
Best tip that I have is to keep hydrated and if you are prone to breakouts due to sweat (obviously don’t wear foundation to your workout), but La Roche-Posay Thermal Water spray is great to keep your face hydrated and will reduce redness! It is great for Australian summers, as I tend to get dry and tight feeling skin in summer due to the dry heat.
It is also a multi use product as it sets make-up too! Can be purchased from Priceline.
I love to take a nice cold swim straight after a work out, not only great for recovery, but leaves you feeling fresh and ready to go again! PS – Love the bag 🙂
Take a cool shower! Helps to cool you down and also take any redness out of your skin 🙂
Drinking lots of water,to rehydrate hot shower for muscle soreness and light snack for blood sugar levels
Wind down with a shower, fresh clothes and plenty of fluids.
leave the natural blush
Yep I tend to agree! Unless if I can patchy redness from overheating!
Clean the face of all the nasty sweat and use a great toner
Water, Water and More water. Wash, Hydrate and more hydrate.
I always drink plenty of water during my work out then a quick shower after.
I never skip the cool down and make sure I wash and re moisturise afterwards.
Drink plenty of water to rehydrate and cool down quickly
Drinking lots of water,to rehydrate hot shower for muscle soreness and light snack for blood sugar levels
Great ideas! A hot foot spa does magic too, I bought one from Target for $15 and it always give me happy feet 🙂
Hair up and out of the way, light shower, moisturise , tinted foundation( I still like to look good while working out ) 🙂 My workout clothes, my towel and water. All set 🙂
Nice tips Jody! A messy bun does a great job to keep your hair out of the way and it’s very cute too 🙂
I like to take a nice shower and make sure I’m all clean before getting out (that is since I go swimming a lot…don’t want the chlorine to stay in my hair!)
That’s smart! Leaving chlorine & pool chemicals on your skin and hair is definitely not a good idea!
Leave your shower till after workout and water to hydrate as well as lip balm for your lips to keep them from drying out.
Hi there Rebecca, good point about the lips! I use an organic honey lip balm which is non-oily to keep them soft. What’s your fav everyday lip balm?
Make sure you drink plenty of water. Don’t forget the deodorant!
Good point Simone! Funny how you just said that because in office we’re having a’water challenge’ week to remind each other to drink 2L of water a day. Just all these little things that do magic to our bodies and we tend to forget easily!
Drinking plenty of Powerade to replace the vitamins, minerals and nutrients lost during the workout. I also find a good walk in the ocean to be great for both my skin and my muscles.
I’m a water baby too as I find strolling by the water very calming and relaxing! I love taking a leisurely stroll by the river, it’s really peaceful plus I don’t get that salty seawater smell on my hair 😉
An organic / natural matt moisturiser with cucumber to cool you down
Good point about cucumber – I actually love putting pieces of cucumber in my water for quick hydration!
